1. About Us
March 16th, 2007
Fifteen church agencies representing over 9000 congregations are Canadian Foodgrains Bank members. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank provides food, seeds and tools to people who are hungry in more than 68 countries around the world affected by drought, flood, civil war and other life altering events. The food, seeds and tools are distributed based on need regardless of creed, race, color, religion or political affiliation. Donations of grains, oilseeds, pulse crops, livestock and cash are matched with a 4:1 ratio from the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to a maximum of $16 million dollars.

A recent area of growth across the country has been community growing projects where a group of farmers, non-farmers and local businesses get together to farm a plot of land and donate the crop to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The Yorkton Foodgrains Bank Project - “Feeding the Children” is one of those projects. This year oats will be grown on 130 acres of land to assist orphaned children in Africa. It is only with the generous support of local businesses and individuals through their donations of time, equipment and crop inputs that makes this project viable.
